Family Orientated Social Ride June 3rd 2023

Three cycling organisations came together for a ride under sunny skies and thankfully plenty of shade on Saturday June 3rd. Members from Breeze, Sustrans and PCyC  (Plymouth Cycling Campaign) met on the Hoe and then at Coypool for a relaxed ride up the Plym Valley trail to Clearbrook Village hall where there was plenty of tea, coffee and cake to refuel the riders.
There was a great mix of young and ‘not so young’, some of the next generation of bike riders being towed in trailers by parents or comfortably seated in the front of cargo bikes. It was also great to see representatives from Endeavour Cycling, a veterans organisation, several in recumbent bikes.
In the hall, there were also displays showing some of the work the various groups do to increase the availability of good quality cycling routes in and around Plymouth. The ride preceded Cycling UK’s ‘Bike Week’ which is seeking to encourage more Active Travel.

Family Friendly Bike Ride. October 23rd 2022

A forecast for Heavy Rain depleted numbers but a good showing from the Core members and unexpected window in the weather meant that a pleasant cycle was had by all. Starting at Tothill Park and heading into and through the City Centre then up to the Hoe, Barbican, across the lock, along the SW coast path then through a busy Saltram looping around coming back across Laira bridge to head back to Tothill park. Thanks to Mike and Stuart for providing the route and the weather gods for smiling on us!

  1. Hi I just move down here from London London for road and mountain bike rides where do ure rides start from I’m near central Plymouth

    • Hi Martin, YOGI listed at the bottom of this page are good for mountain bike rides. If you fancy some down hill MTB rides, try Gawton & Tavi Woodlands (near Bere Alston – you can catch the train out) a day ticket is £5 or membership for one year is only about £30. There is some really good mountain biking up on Dartmoor especially around Burrator/Princetown area (look around for the little purple gate-fold MTB route brochures for Dartmoor, only about £5). Try Plymbridge & Cann Woods (Plymouth) for woodland tracks. For further afield try Haldon Hill, Okehampton, Cardinham Woods, Cheers.

  2. Had my first lesson with Peter Simon of Plymotion, brilliant teacher, free course, but soon to srop. Plymouth Council have done their best but funds dry up at the end of this month.Come on guys, find some means to keep this enthusiastic teacher in his job and promote cycling

  3. Yogi Cycling Club run regular Mountain (MTB) Bike club rides in the Plymouth and West devon area. There are lots of rides to choose from, so it’s best to take a look at http://www.yogicycling.com and look for the Weekly Rides update post. This explains the various rides and gives an idea of the sort of level you need to be to attend each ride. There’s something for everyone from beginners looking for their first foray onto Dartmoor tracks, to experts wishing to push their fitness.
