Safer cycling survey

The Times’ campaign to make cycling safer has just launched a survey to find out what cyclists think would make for safer cycling. The recently launched cross-party enquiry by MPs into cycling safety and getting more people onto bikes has agreed to incorporate the results of this survey into their findings.
So please go direct to the survey at
This is a real opportunity to let policymakers aware of your concerns at a time when cycling safety is high on the agenda.

  1. RE CYCLE SAFETY: This comment on Plymouth appeared in the Guardian

Interesting to read that Plymouth is cited as a city experimenting with some of these ideas. I have cycled in cities in many parts of the world over the last 30 years. Unfortunately I have to live in Plymouth for part of the year. It is by far the most dangerous place for cyclists that I have encountered. I no longer try to cycle there A few intermittent cycle lanes have been introduced, (presumably they get a grant from somewhere for these) but they are used for residential parking. There is no enforcement of rules saying that vehicles cannot park on these lanes. Buses also ‘share’ these lanes with cyclists. Plymouth, somehow, employs some of the most dangerous bus drivers in the world. It would be insane to take a bike on to the roads in that city. As with most environmental and social issues the UK is decades behind most other european countri es, and the anti cycling culture epitomises this.
